What are Parent and Child Themes?

A WordPress child theme takes the functionality of another theme, named parent theme. It gives you the possibility to customize an existing theme. Instead of modifying the theme files directly, you can activate the child theme and work within it.

All customizations are stored in the child theme and anything in the child takes priority over the parent. So if the same file exist in both child and parent, the file from the child will control that aspect of the theme.

Working with child themes, your customizations are safeguarded from future upgrades because you only upgrade the parent theme, which you never edit, while the customizations are protected in your child theme which you don’t upgrade.

Why use a Child theme?

Safe Updates. You can easily modify your website using child themes without ever changing the parent theme. When a new version of the parent theme appears, you can safely update it as all your modifications are saved in the child theme. Easy to Extend. A child theme has a great flexibility. It does not require writing a lot of code. You can modify only those template files and functions that you need.

Install Theme

The first option how to install this Theme would be to directly upload the CarRental.zip file via WordPress Theme Uploader.  
  • Minimal requirements:
    • PHP 7+
    • Php.ini settings:
      max_execution_time = 600
      upload_max_filesize = 32M
      post_max_size = 48M
      memory_limit = 512M
      max_input_time = 300
      max_input_vars = 10000
    • MySQL 5.0+
    • Wordpress 5+
    • Please make sure you have proper version of wordpress installed.
    • Log Into WordPress and go to Appearance > Themes
    • Find the CarRental Theme and click activate
  • FTP Upload:
    • Unzip the "CarRental.zip" file from theme folder
    • Open up your FTP manager and connect to your hosting
    • Browse to wp-content/themes
    • Upload the CarRental in theme folder
    • Log Into WordPress and go to Appearance > Themes
    • Find the CarRental Theme and click activate

Reserve Form

Car Rental theme comes up with Reservation form. It helps user to pick and drop off the car in pre-defined locations. This video will guide you about how it works

Theme Customizer

Logo with Header and Footer Style

You can find all the Theme Options from Appearance-> Customize->Theme Settings

From Header and Footer Settings, you can change your logo, header style , menu styles etc. Watch the video for better guidance.

Sticky Header

Go to your header page > Open the elementor editing panel > click advance

From here you can easily make your header sticky, you can also change background etc.

Menu Style

After clicking the menu widget go to Style Tab.It allows you to change menu item and submenu item color, font-family etc. you can also change the menu according to Responsive Devices like Desktop, Tablet, Mobile

Page Banner

You will find this setting from: Dashboard > Pages > Click Edit > Scroll Down. After that you will find the page title, banner image and other options to edit. When you're done don't forget to click Update to save your changes.

You can also change the banner form Dashboard > Appearance > Customize > Theme Settings > Banner Settings

CarRental elements

CarRental Advanced Tab

First click Edit Icon of the widget Then you will find the Tab content option from where you can change the content. For instance, Tab Content, Image, Appoinment etc. You will find Style Tab on top that allows you to Change the color of Tab menu, body, Number etc.

Team Widget

First click Edit Icon of the widget Then you will find all the necessary options of the widget. For instance Team style, Icon, Social Profile, PopUp Settings. Style Tab on top gives you color changing option.

MetForm Customization

Click the red edit icon of the metForm widget

Select your form then click Edit Form.There you can change input settings like required, hover, placeholder etc. Click Update button to save your changes

Car Booking Form

First click Edit Icon of the widget Then you will find all the necessary options of the widget. Style Tab on top gives you color changing option.

Car Booking Modal Form

Go to your Dashboard Click on metform menu Create a new form by clicking Add New and open that form by clicking Edit Content Button.


Add the textarea name car-details and design modal form by choosing field such as text field, email field, select field, checkbox and submit button


First click on reservation form and select the modal form that was created and choose it from reservation options


Finally show this modal like the below screenshot, And fill up the information and submit data by clicking Reserve now button

Create a css file name style.css file on CarRental-child\style.css folder and write your own css customization.

Some characteristics of the style.css file

  • The file is not included by default
  • The file is the last file to be loaded in your site.

Main css file is CarRental/assets/css/CarRental-styles.css

What is a Child Theme?

As indicated in the overview, a child theme inherits the look and feel of the parent theme and all of its functions, but can be used to make modifications to any part of the theme. In this way, customizations are kept separate from the parent theme’s files. Using a child theme lets you upgrade the parent theme without affecting the customizations you’ve made to your site.

  • 2.keep customization separate from parent theme functions;
  • 3.allow parent themes to be updated without destroying your modifications;

1) The Content Area Was Not Found in Your Page

If you get this error make sure you Refresh or Flush WordPress Permalinks

2) Can’t Edit with Elementor. The editor is a blank, white page

If you get a blank page (white screen of death) when you try to edit with Elementor, it might be due to a lack of memory or to another fatal error.
